New poll reveals business hopes and fears for 2016

UK small and medium-sized enterprises believe the availability of better technology will be the most important contributor for business growth next year, with 39 per cent citing it will have a positive impact, Barclays Business’ Hopes & Fears poll has revealed.

The top five SME hopes for 2016 are:
• Availability of better technology (39 per cent).
• Consumer demand (32 per cent).
• International markets/opportunities overseas (25 per cent).
• Trend to move to online business/have a digital presence (23 per cent).
• Major sporting/cultural events (10 per cent).

The top five SME fears for 2016 are:
• Extreme weather (23 per cent).
• Money/funding constraints (20 per cent).
• Competition among similar businesses (18 per cent).
• Interest rate rise (16 per cent).
• Business rates (16 per cent).
