SunGod signs world number one ultra runner Courtney Dauwalter

{desc}

Leading British performance eyewear brand, SunGod, has announced a partnership with ultra-running legend, Courtney Dauwalter.

Fresh off her victory, and smashing the record of the Hardrock 100 race in Colorado, Courtney is now part of Team SunGod’s athlete roster.

Best known for her beaming smile, signature shorts and tough-as-nails approach to trail running - Courtney epitomises what it means to be a free spirit. And with some of the most impressive course records in ultra-running history to her name - including outrunning the men’s field on several occasions and setting course records - it’s obviously working for her.

Born and raised in Minnesota, she proved her adeptness at ultra-endurance sports as a four-time Minnesota state champion in Nordic skiing, going to college on a cross country scholarship. Following a move to Colorado to teach science in a middle school, her love for running was discovered in the mountains of Denver.

Since becoming a professional runner in 2017, her list of accomplishments speaks volumes, not just of her ability as a runner, but her resilience as an athlete to push the boundaries of human endurance:

• Won the 2019 UTMB (fastest female) and the 2021 UTMB (set course record)

• Won the overall 2017 Moab 240 by an astonishing 10-hour margin

• Won the overall 2020 Big Dog Backyard Ultra by clocking 283 miles

• Won the women’s division of 2018 The Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run

• Broke the Tahoe 200 female course record in 2018 by 18+ hours (coming second overall, and the previous men’s record by 8 hours)

• Recipient of the 2020 George Mallory Award for pushing the boundaries of human performance

Courtney said: “I am very intrigued by the very, very long distances. I want to try the races and challenges that require physical and mental strength to work together – and have a blast while doing it. SunGod is full of great people who make incredible products, all while helping take care of our playground. I’m psyched to be part of the team.”

Humble by her very nature, Dauwalter doesn’t follow a set training or nutrition plan, or work with a coach. She says she trains by listening to her body, putting in the miles and simply working hard.

Courtney can be seen wearing the lifestyle SunGod Classics³ on the trail and her social media profile, fitting neatly with her free-living high-work rate approach to racing.
