The cycling and triathlon retailer, Sigma Sports, has secured a place in The Sunday Times Virgin Atlantic Fast Track 100 league table. The league table ranks Britain’s 100 private companies with the fastest-growing sales over their latest three years. It is the first time Sigma Sports is listed in the Fast Track 100, having previously been listed twice in The Sunday Times International Track 200 league table of companies with the fastest growing international sales.
Sigma Sports is ranked 95th in the 2020 list which features a wide range of businesses, including breweries, marketing agencies and construction companies. The company reports an annual sales rise over three years of 39.67% – with a turnover of 33.8m in the financial year ending December 2019 – and is expecting sales to rise by 72% to £58m this year.
Sigma Sports completed a number of big projects and initiatives this year. Early in the year, the retailer’s flagship store in Hampton Wick was refitted to improve customers’ in-store shopping experience. The launch of a new e-commerce site followed in May to benefit user-friendliness and introduce live chat and video consultations with staff. Late summer saw the soft launch of Universal Colours, a new cycling clothing brand born out of Sigma Sports with its own, dedicated team. In September, Sigma Sports expanded its physical store presence with a new shop in Oakham. Since March, the company has hired 30 full-time staff, bringing its total number of employees to 155.
Ian Whittingham, co-founder and managing director of Sigma Sports, says: “We continue to adapt and evolve as a business and this year has been like no other. We have expanded our retail footprint and invested in our online operations to serve our customers in new ways. We are excited and encouraged by the growth we have experienced and by the number of people taking up cycling.”
