Over 50,000 festival goers flocked to Hackney Marshes for Hackney Moves

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, officially started the Hackney Half 2022.

In his welcome speech, Sadiq Khan said: “This is officially the hippest, coolest Half Marathon in the world. Thank you all for raising tens of thousands of pounds for some really worthy charities.”

This weekend saw Hackney Moves, the UK’s largest Outdoor Fitness Festival, return to Hackney Marshes with over 50,000 festival-goers across the weekend. The two-day celebration of movement and creative culture included an epic line-up of free entertainment, sports & fitness activities as well as a guest appearance from Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who officially started the Hackney Half marathon 2022.

The Mayor of London was joined by Mayor of Hackney, Philip Glanville, who added: “So happy to see people back running, supporting and representing on the streets of Hackney at the Hackney Half marathon.”

HACKNEY MOVES FESTIVAL
Thousands of Londoners celebrated the spirit of community through sport this weekend at Hackney Half (London’s largest and most vibrant half marathon), the Hackney 5K and Hackney Schools’ Challenge, whilst soaking up the atmosphere on Hackney Marshes with curated interactive live fitness experiences and entertainment.  

For the first time, runners were supported along every stride with the help of the event partners, Strava – and their team of Strava Pacers; starting with a pre-race ‘meet-up’ at Strava’s Kudos Corner in Festival Village on Hackney Marshes, and ending on the Kudos KM!

LimeLight Sports announced a groundbreaking partnership with technology leaders xG Studios, launching the first-ever half marathon NFT reward. The Hackney Half Marathon NFT Finisher is the first xG® reward, released in partnership with LimeLight Sports Club, marking the start of a digital collectable experience for all LimeLight Sports Club members. The futuristic collectable holographic NFT was made available exclusively to the highest engaged LimeLight Sports Club members* who took part in the weekend’s Hackney Half Marathon 2022.

Lucky Saint, Tenzing, and Gorillas brought the event to life across the weekend with product sampling and activations on course and in the festival village.

HACKNEY HALF
Thousands of runners celebrated the spirit of Hackney by taking on the Hackney Half, London’s most vibrant running event, on the final day of Hackney Moves. At 9am, runners including London run clubs such as Run Dem Crew hit the buzzing 13.1 mile route down Mare Street through a carnival of sound, past the iconic Town Hall, along Broadway Market, through arty Hackney Wick and over the finish line on Hackney Marshes.
Participants ran for leading UK charities including Alzheimers Society, fundraising for good causes.

The 2022 Hackney Half Marathon was won by Sam Bramwell (male winner) and Rebecca Bunting (female winner) with times of 01:09:17 and 01:19:13 respectively.

Male Winner Sam said of his time “That was probably the best experience of my life. The support, cheering, drumming and music was unbelievable. My first Hackney Half, I didn’t know it was going to be that good! I’ve never experienced anything quite like it.”

Female Hackney Half Marathon 2022 Winner, Rebecca added: “Amazing race. So nice to come back to Hackney! I did the inaugural race eight years ago and I’ve always wanted to come back. Such a great event!

HACKNEY 5K & HACKNEY SCHOOLS’ CHALLENGE
Thousands of next-generation runners aged 13 and above participated in the free Hackney 5K. Youth running initiative the HACKNEY SCHOOLS’ CHALLENGE returned with hundreds of children (5-11 years) from schools across the Borough of Hackney. They took on the 1.1 mile race to successfully complete their own 13.1 mile challenge.
