‘Incredible’ response to new handball hub for schools as 1,000 plus teachers sign up

England Handball’s new Teach Handball Hub hopes to inspire thousands of youngsters to take up the sport.

A new initiative has been launched to help primary school teachers inspire the next generation of handball stars and encourage thousands more youngsters to take up the sport.

England Handball has launched the new, completely free, Teach Handball Hub – a one-stop shop for everything teachers need to know about the sport including basic equipment, rules, FAQs, training opportunities and more.

The website contains a wide range of free resources for both primary and secondary school teachers and is aimed at boosting the appeal of the sport.

Regardless of the level of experience and knowledge of handball, teachers are being urged to sign up and download a range of free, age and stage appropriate resources, supporting the delivery of one of the fastest, easiest and cheapest sports in the world.

The facility has only been live for a matter of days but has already seen more than 1,000 teachers sign up.

A competition to celebrate the launch has also been announced, with £350 in handball equipment up for grabs thanks from Net World Sports. Every school teacher that registers on the portal before midnight on February 28 will have the chance to win a FORZA Primary School Handball Introduction Pack for their school*, which includes two handball goals, 12 balls and carry bags.

Stacey Andrews, National Partnership Manager at England Handball, said: “Handball continues to be one of the fastest growing indoor sports in England and our new Teach Handball Hub has been created to take that growth to the next level.

“It’s fast-paced, high scoring and energetic, making it a game that children of all ages love to play, which is one reason why teaching handball is becoming ever more popular. School participation is one of the big growth drivers for us, so we wanted to give teachers everything they need to make teaching handball as easy as possible.

“It’s perfect for primary schools as it can be played across so many different settings, from playgrounds to small gym halls, and very little equipment is needed.

“Our new hub will help schools incorporate a wide variety of different handball activities for PE lessons, clubs and other community events. With it, we hope to encourage thousands more pupils to join the growing handball community.

“It’s only been live for a short time, and I’m pleased to say there’s been an incredible response so far.”

Across England, thousands of schools are already involved in handball sessions, playing games and introducing handball skills and techniques, many with the help of England Handball – the official governing body for the sport.

This new hub hopes to bring even more schools on board to benefit from everything the game has to offer, whether that’s teaching in PE sessions, delivering cross-curriculum activities, or running an after-school club.

The site offers a wide range of resources, lesson plans for different age groups, activity and session ideas and all the information teachers need on the rules and equipment required for school handball.

The initial focus is on working with primary schools with more resources to be added soon, but England Handball also has plans to build out more resources for secondary school teachers later this year.

Alongside the brilliant resources on offer, teachers will also be able to find opportunities to sign up on specific CPD, both online and face-to-face. As part of the course offer, teachers will be able to develop their refereeing/officiating skills, further their knowledge on how to introduce the game and/or support the GCSE assessments.

On top of the free teaching resources, England Handball has also agreed a partnership with Premier Education – the leading provider of sport and physical activity to primary schools, which currently works with more than 2,500 schools across the UK. The partnership will help to ensure even more school sessions are delivered across England and more details will be announced soon.
