Chief medical officer announced as Elevate 2019 keynote speaker

Organisers of Elevate, the UK’s leading trade event for physical activity, health and performance, have announced the UK Government’s Chief Medical Officer, Professor Dame Sally Davies, will be a keynote speaker for its Thought Leaders’ Conference which takes place at ExCel in London on May 8-9.

Dame Sally will lead discussion to inspire bigger picture thinking to unleash the full power of the physical activity sector as a force for good in society. She follows other industry leaders who have delivered thought-provoking speeches at the annual conference, including former Sports Minister, Tracey Crouch and Sir Muir Gray CBE.

Joining Dame Sally at the Thought Leaders’ Conference will be CIMSPA CEO, Tara Dillon, the Invictus Games Team UK Captain, Mark Perkins, Public Health Physical Activity Champion, Dr Zoe Williams, Sport England CEO, Tim Hollingsworth and National Lead for Physical Activity at Public Health England, Dr Mike Brannan.

Now in its fourth year, Elevate continues to explore the benefits of physical activity for health and wellbeing whilst considering how the sector can help get more people moving, more often. This year’s event will build on its 2018 success, where it uniquely combined the future of fitness, with elite sports, public health and medical services.

Elevate offers an extensive free education programme for the thousands of delegates attending with over 300 speakers presenting across nine dedicated programmes over the two-day event.

Influential speakers include Kevin Currell, Director of Science and Technical Development at the English Institute of Sport, Brett Kirby, Human Performance Scientist at Nike Sport Research Lab, Dr Simon Kemp, Chief Medical Officer at the RFU, Catherine McLaughlin, Strategic Lead – Children & Young People at Sport England and Nick Richardson, Chief Executive at The Insights People.

Alongside the speaker programme, Elevate once again boasts an impressive range of exhibitors who will showcase their latest products aimed at positively contributing towards decreasing physical inactivity levels, to the 10,000+ expected attendees. Exhibitors include Elevate’s headline sponsor, fibodo, along with eGym, PayAsUGym, Les Mills, Physical Company, FunXtion, MYZONE, Jordan Fitness, Keiser, Matrix and Eleiko.

The lead supporters for the 2019 trade event for physical activity, health and performance play a significant role in creating engaging content for the Elevate programme of events. These supporters including ukactive, CIMSPA, London Sport, UK Sport, ISEH and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists.

Max Quittenton, Director of Elevate, said: “We are extremely excited about Elevate 2019 as it will be our largest and most exciting event to date.

“Physical inactivity continues to be an ever-present societal issue which is at the focal point of contemporary sport policy. With Sport England’s recent Active Lives and Young People Survey showing that 82% per cent of young people are failing to hit the Chief Medical Officer’s guidelines, Elevate will continue to play a crucial role in bringing the industry together to sustainably decrease notable figures such as these.

“Partnership working is highly regarded within the sector in both alleviating barriers to physical activity and understanding behaviour change’s influence upon physically inactive people. Elevate leads from the front in providing the hub for triggering organisational collaboration.”
