STAG rounded off 2013 with another successful winter show in the Cotswolds

Doubling its annual show schedule from two to four events looks to have paid off for STAG, with the buying group telling Sports Insight that its UK Winter Buying Show, which took place at the excellent Cotswold Water Park Hotel last November, was a huge success.

Director Sara Chandler told us: “There were a number of concerns after we introduced a brand new second summer show in 2013, but thanks to our enthusiastic STAG members and suppliers we were not disappointed. 

“But the best way for us to communicate the success of the show is far better summed up by our retailers and suppliers.”

Jon Barrett of Sportyshop described the show as “great”, adding: “As always, the venue was ideal. We had a comfortable room, there was a great selection of food and beverages and we had the chance to network with fellow retailers and our suppliers.

“We always find it beneficial to attend this show, not only to forward order and take advantage of show offers from current suppliers, but also to view product ranges from suppliers we currently don’t trade with. We placed orders with two new suppliers, as well as taking advantage of show offers from our existing suppliers, so it was a successful show for us.”

Representatives from Sweatband.com, which was attending its first-ever STAG show, said they found it useful, extremely well organised and professionally executed.

Brand verdict
New Balance direct account manager Sam Halliday reported the event was: “Our best STAG Buying Show, with a record number of orders taken and a record number of members attending the stand. We also picked up new accounts too, which is great for New Balance.”

Ian Flack, Winmau’s sales and marketing director, is a veteran STAG show exhibitor. His verdict? “It was another successful winter buying show. It is always the perfect blend of business and pleasure.”

With dates and venues currently being finalised, preparations for STAG’s 2014 shows have already begun. It’s safe to say the buying group, which comprises 130 suppliers and 440 retailers trading from 600 stores, is planning on having another prosperous year.
