Running away with nominations: The 2016 Running Awards
The 2016 Running Awards launched on Monday afternoon with the opening of nominations for the running industry’s favourites. The organisers have reported an overwhelming response to the new responsive website and the voting so far. The date of the 2016 awards ceremony has also been confirmed as Friday 22nd April 2016.
The Running Awards was established in 2014 and is a journey and celebration of all things running, dubbed affectionately “the Oscars of the running world” by the industry and runners. The independent annual awards are going from strength to strength after moving to the iconic indigo at The O2 for the 2015 ceremony.
2016 will see a continuation at indigo at The O2 where up to 550 A-list industry key figures as well as 600 running enthusiasts from the running community and 100 key running press and fitness bloggers will witness the best in the industry, as independently voted for by runners, being awarded the sought-after Running Awards trophies.
Nominations have been coming in quickly since the launch at 1pm on Monday, with over 900 nominations and more than 6,000 votes within the first day and a half. Categories open for voting so far include Accessories, Clothing, Nutrition & Hydration, Publications, Events, Shoes, Sports Retailers, Technology and Favourite Charity. New categories will be launched over the coming weeks where runners can nominate and vote for their favourites until 4th December 2015.
Voting is free, quick and very simple, the only details required are a name and email address. Nominations and voting will continue up until 4th December, when the nomination stage closes. The shortlists (top 12) in each category will be announced on 8th December, after which voting reopens until 22nd March with all votes being cumulative. The voting in the Event category will remain open until 20th April, and runners can vote for their Favourite Charity until 10pm on 22nd April.
A ‘Vote for Us 2016’ file badge has also been released which can be downloaded from the website http://therunningawards.com/ in order to actively encourage customers, supporters, fans and followers to vote.
Paul Corrick, co-founder of The Running Awards commented: “The Running Awards continues to grow, with the running industry and community very much behind the awards. Through extremely positive feedback we have announced today that we will continue at indigo at The O2 and have increased capacity to 550 VIP Dining, with food provided by Gaucho”.
“We have invested to improve the speed and ease of voting on the website with a simple, independent and quick system to assist with the increased volume and focus which the awards are receiving. There will be many more industry announcements over the coming months and we fully appreciate the industry and community support we receive, thank you to all”.
The organisers of The Running Awards have been working with Breathe Unity, a well-known PR company in the Sports Industry which specialises in Sports PR and Partnerships, since the 2015 awards.
Rebecca Richardson, MD of Breathe Unity PR commented: “We are delighted and proud to continue working with The Running Awards and we see 2016 as a bigger year than ever for both the industry and voters, with an overwhelming momentum to make sure the best in the industry is recognised. A lot of exciting partnerships will be announced over the coming months, showing the huge support and recognition of The Running Awards for 2016 and beyond”.
