Beyond London 2012 Awards

The UK’s leading brands and sporting organisations have come together to launch the Beyond London 2012 Awards, which will reward the best sports programmes, projects and people inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and are open for entries now.

The winners will be announced at the Beyond London 2012 Awards on July 15 at City Hall in front of an invite only audience of industry leaders including Mayor Boris Johnson and Lord Seb Coe.

Leading brands including Barclays, BT, Procter & Gamble and RP Global have come together with LOCOG, Sport Relief and the Mayor of London’s Office, as well as the Daily Telegraph, to reward the very best work across six categories, ranging from global sustainability and employability to social inclusion.

The winners will receive a range of packages, including cash prizes and business support.

The six awards are detailed below, with entries open on http://www.beyondsport.org:

• The Barclays Employability Award.
• The BT Paralympic Momentum Award.
• The P&G UK Impact Award.
• The Sport Relief Innovation Award.
• The RP Global Sustainability Award.
•  The London 2012 Inclusion and Diversity Award.

The Barclays Employability Award, the P&G UK Impact Award and the Sport Relief Innovation Award are open to the public for entries, while the BT Paralympic Momentum Award, RP Global Sustainability Award and the London 2012 Inclusion and Diversity Award will be judged through a nomination process.

“London 2012 set out to inspire people to get active and enjoy sport,” says Mayor Boris Johnson.

“These awards are a testimony to the army of unsung heroes who are striving to keep the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games alive in our communities.

“Their role in delivering a legacy of sports participation is vital and is the bedrock of my own grassroots sports programme.”

Lord Coe adds: “London 2012 gave this country a once in a lifetime opportunity to boost sport’s place as the unseen social worker.

“As we look to the future, it is important that those programmes and projects which have successfully capitalised on the opportunity are rewarded and that the UK does not lose sight of the future opportunities in this area.”

Beyond Sport’s global partners are Barclays, TIME and Unicef.

Its presenting partners include P&G and Fortune.
