Up & Running announces shoe amnesty

The move, which is designed to encourage runners to donate their shoes for recycling, comes as the retailer confirmed it has renewed its partnership with European Recycling Company and increased its in-store collection points to 24.

Until September 14, anyone donating shoes will receive 10 per cent off a new pair, a free gait analysis and a pair of Groundhog socks worth £8.

Every pair of shoes will be distributed for resale and reuse at various local marketplaces around the developing world.

“The partnership between ERC and Up & Running is testament that together we can not only educate and empower people to responsibly dispose of what they consume, but we can also in a small way make a big difference to the planet that we all share together,” Jonathan Midwood, general manager of Up & Running, says.

“To do this while also keeping people active is a great opportunity and we are proud to work in partnership with a company like ERC.”
