Despite another challenging year for independent retail, a record amount of business was written at STAG’s UK Buying Show at the Cotswold Water Park on November 20-21.

Nearly 200 of the buying group’s retail members attended the event, which featured 70 suppliers, including new members such as Helly Hansen, Jakabel, Kickers, Falke and Spalding.

“We work very hard to create the buying show experience and it certainly paid off more than ever this year, as the STAG Buying Show was once again a tremendous success for all that took part,” says Ricky Chandler, joint managing director of STAG.

“I certainly enjoyed the positive atmosphere that was evident over the two days, and the strength of the UK sports, shoe and outdoor independent trade was very evident to all.”

Sara Coyle, STAG’s marketing manager, said the 2011 show was the most enjoyable she had been involved in, adding: “Considering what has been going on with the economy this year, I was delighted with the attitude of all the STAG retailers and suppliers.

“The atmosphere that everyone played a part in creating was simply tremendous and a pleasure to be part of.”
