Intersport’s recent ‘Q2 2010’ show registered a record attendance of nearly 90 per cent of its retail membership.
The two-day event was the official launch of the latest tennis, cricket and fitness products to the company's retail network. It was also the setting for the Intersport awards ceremony, held at a special dinner, where nominations were put forward and prizes won for a range of categories, including:
Best Overall Supplier. Winner: Nike.
Best Hardware Supplier. Winner: Unicorn.
Best Footwear Supplier. Winner: Asics.
Best Textile Supplier. Winner: adidas
Best Up & Coming Brand. Winner: Under Armour.
Best Sales Team & Customer Service. Winner: Gray-Nicolls/Gilbert.
Best at Understanding Intersport. Winner: Nike.
Most Dedicated Sales Person. Winner: Phil Mitchell from Umbro (pictured right with Barry Mellis).
“I felt that the show reflected a new mood of self-assurance and self-belief amongst our members and suppliers,” says Barry Mellis, Intersport’s general manager.
“There was a feeling of buoyancy at our event that was almost palpable, and this new mood of optimism was certainly responsible, I believe, for the high level of business that was transacted over the two days and very probably for the great fun we all enjoyed in the evening.
“The show was, in itself, a launch pad for the retail market in a post-recessionary world. Whilst retailers drew their wagons into a protective circle during the worst of the downturn, this show was the herald of more assured times ahead for the industry.
“Intersport is perfectly positioned and has the architecture to take full advantage of an economy that has turned the corner on behalf of our membership. We, as a premier buying group, have regained our appetite for growth and are driving forward in building and strengthening our membership base and redoubling our efforts in constructing an environment where the culture of business can flourish the and ideals of enterprise prosper.”
