Intersport has launched its own ecommerce venture at http://www.intersport.co.uk.
Powered by ecommerce specialist The Hut Group, the store sells products for football, cricket, running, rugby and racquet sports from the likes of Nike, adidas, Speedo, Wilson, Umbro and Asics.
“This arrangement will allows us to go further in breaking the vice-like grip the giant dot-com players have on the market and which, through greater competition, will be to the ultimate benefit of our own community and all consumers,” says Barry Mellis, Intersport’s general manager.
“It reflects our appetite for growth and underpins our strategy to develop a higher awareness of the Intersport brand and increase our market share.”
Mellis went onto say that reaction to the move from Intersport members has been mixed, despite The Hut Group sharing any net profits with the retailer, a significant proportion of which will be received by members.
One Intersport retailer said he was pleased Intersport has joined forces with The Hut Group.
