‘Fantastic showcase.’ ‘Refreshing.’ ‘Timely event.’ ‘Interesting and Informative evening.’
These were just some of the ways guests described the recent Federation of Sport and Play Associations’ evening reception event at the House of Commons on June 25.
Entitled ‘Showcasing the UK sport and play industries’, it brought together MPs, Lords, VIPs from leading national governing bodies and government departments, and FSPA members to celebrate and raise awareness of the vibrant sport and play sectors.
The event, set in the historic Terrace Pavilion, provided guests with the perfect opportunity to network and discuss ways of working together, while taking in the impressive views from the Thames-side terrace.
Guests were welcomed by host Brandon Lewis MP, who expressed his “delight at being able to host such an exciting event in such a historic sporting year for the UK.”
Lewis went on to praise the Federation “for its willingness and desire to offer its services and expertise in partnering and engaging with government on topics of mutual interest.”
FSPA chairman Liam Burns thanked guests for attending and explained the reason for the event was “to highlight the huge resource the FSPA membership is and how as a trade body we are keen to be consulted on play and sport campaigns, initiatives and policy at its developmental stage.”
A short video was played to highlight this.

All guests wore FSPA pedometers to encourage them to move around the venue and maximise the networking opportunities available, creating a buzz around celebrating the sector and the innovative UK companies the FSPA has within its membership,
Former GB athletes Nathan Robertson and Karen Pickering, Britain's most successful swimmer, were also present.
Both spoke to and posed for pictures with MPs and Lords, who were clearly eagerly anticipating the world's greatest sporting event arriving in London in just over a month’s time.
The reception raised considerable interest on social media networks, with many guests tweeting before, during and after the event, while feedback has been fantastic, with many new contacts and meetings arranged to further develop mutually beneficial relationships.
