adidas set to smash football category sales record

By: Jeff James

Published: Thursday, June 21, 2012

adidas expects record football category sales of over €1.6 billion this year, smashing the €1.5 billion worth of sales it achieved during the World Cup year of 2010.

The brand estimates it will sell seven million of its Tango 12 balls alone.

The Tango 12 is the official match ball of EURO 2012.

"adidas can already be sure of defending its title as the most successful football brand in Europe and the world,” says CEO Herbert Hainer.

“adidas is leading the way at the EURO 2012 in every respect - in terms of product sales, brand visibility and innovative strength."

Markus Baumann, senior vice president adidas Global Football, adds: "EURO 2012 has once again underlined that the contribution of adidas to the world's most popular sport resonates extremely well with players, consumers and fans.

“We will utilise this momentum in order to further expand our global market leadership in football.”
