Anti-Counterfeiting Seminar for all FSPA Members

THE FSPA is holding an Anti-Counterfeiting seminar for its members.

This session led by speakers from Anti-Counterfeiting Group (ACG) is open FOC to all FSPA members and will commence after a networking lunch.

ACG is the voice of business in shaping an effective deterrent to counterfeiting in the UK. They help to steer effective policy, promote evidenced based actions, empower multi-agency partnerships, and strengthen international collaboration in the fight against counterfeiting.

ACG represents more than 3,000 brands affected by the influx of fakes into the UK and delivers an international network of information, advice, and content on all aspects of IP protection. Working with Government and law enforcement agencies since 1980, ACG is focused on providing an effective and sustained response to counterfeiting.

Overview
Following the recent increase in cases of counterfeiting in the sports industry, they will take a practical look at the following:
Knowing the value of UK/Global counterfeiting industry
Do companies such as eBay and Amazon have a social responsibility to act, knowing their platforms are being used to sell counterfeit products
Case studies on how large organisations successfully deal with counterfeiting
How counterfeiting has grown over the last ten years
The do’s / don’ts when handling cases of counterfeits
Is naming and shaming a widely used practice on knowledge of proven guilty parties
Prevention of counterfeit sellers remerging on-line when their trading details have already been shut down by anti-counterfeiting agencies

The Speakers – Alison Statham, Director General – Anti Counterfeiting Group

Alison has been with the Anti-Counterfeiting Group (ACG) since 2005 and, as Director General, is responsible for effective leadership and day-to-day operations, ensuring the strategic development of the organisation.
She is passionate about anti-counterfeiting and strives to bring about positive changes in the industry, constantly looking at innovative ways to do so.

Alison uses her vast experience in project and events management and leadership skills to influence senior industry and government officials to build robust legislation and operational support for industry whilst ensuring that Intellectual Property remains on the political agenda. She is often called to provide evidence to Government groups on the subject, allowing her to challenge politician’s views on the subject with the aim to bring about necessary change.

She is regularly asked by universities, UK law enforcement & industry groups around the world to provide keynote addresses on the subject of anti-counterfeiting and intellectual property and particularly enjoys reaching out to students and consumers to educate them on the risks of purchasing counterfeit products.

The Speakers – Graham Mogg, Intelligence Co-ordinator – Anti Counterfeiting Group

Graham Mogg is a retired Detective having served 31 years with South Wales Police. During his career he was seconded to the IPO as Head of their Intelligence Hub acting as a conduit between private and public-sector partners to combat serious and organised IP crime.

He holds a Master’s Degree in IP Law and since retirement has provided consultancy services in the field of IP to industry and government. Graham was the co-author of the EUIPO / Europol situation report on Counterfeiting in the EU and on behalf of the ACG chairs of the National Markets Group for IP Protection a multi-agency focus group looking at reducing the sale of IP infringing products at markets, car boot sales and on Social media.

As the Intelligence Co-ordinator for the Anti-Counterfeiting Group, Graham works with a range of IP sectors and enforcement to capture information leading to the disruption of organised IP crime and supports ACG in developing an evidence based policy strategy to influence government and reduce the availability of counterfeit goods in the UK.
